MEET THE TEAM

In 2013, Dana and Carlo Kaminski, a husband-and-wife team, founded a business called Art of Design. Built around Carlo’s wildlife designs, the company was inspired by a deep appreciation for African animals and their distinctive patterns. Through dedication and hard work, the business began supplying game lodges and wildlife sanctuaries.

Just as the company was gaining momentum, the COVID-19 pandemic brought trading to a sudden halt. Faced with closed doors and an uncertain future, the family made the decision to adapt and start again. With the support of their son, Dana and Carlo rebranded the business and expanded their creative direction beyond wildlife, allowing space for new ideas and growth.

This new chapter became Atlas Bear—a name chosen with intention. The Atlas Bear was the first animal known to have become extinct, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of conservation and storytelling through art.

Every design is hand-drawn by Carlo, bringing together artistic detail, meaning, and a respect for the natural world.

Dana is the driving force behind Atlas Bear’s presence at markets across Johannesburg, where she connects directly with customers and shares the stories behind each design. Together, the family has built a brand that values quality, authenticity, and purpose.

Atlas Bear is more than a clothing label. It represents a commitment to creativity, community, and celebrating Africa’s heritage through thoughtful design. Every purchase supports a family business and helps keep meaningful stories alive.
